MICHAEL WILLIAMS has California roots going back 100 years and has spent most of his life in San Diego County, with nearly 30 years in the South Bay. He has a career history of public service and is proud to be a Californian.  He has been an active participant in political and civic affairs for fifteen years, seeking to improve government and residents’ lives.

Following his graduation from American University in Washington, D.C. he completed the Navy’s Aviation Officer Candidates School in Pensacola, FL and subsequently became a Naval Intelligence Officer with worldwide at-sea and ashore assignments, to include a combat tour to the Middle East with Special Operations Forces.

Retiring from the Navy, he gained business experience with start-up international trade and analysis companies.   After returning to San Diego, he entered public service as a Policy Analyst/Council Representative with the San Diego City Council working in both Council Districts One and Two. His first major project was the transition of the former Naval Training Center into Liberty Station.  He was a committee consultant with the Mayor’s Select Committee on Government Efficiency and Fiscal Reform.  Williams was also a volunteer and report editor for the Coronado Blue Ribbon Committee on Traffic, and served a term on the San Diego City College Citizen Board of Advisors.

The 9/11 terrorist attacks saw him return to military service as a civilian analyst with Navy Special Warfare for three years and then join the FBI as a national security/counterterrorism Intelligence Analyst with the San Deigo Field Office, retiring after ten years as a Supervisory Intelligence Analyst.  His service included a four-month deployment to Baghdad, Iraq in 2006.

In retirement Williams has been an active member on the board of directors of the San Diego World Affairs Council, having served as chair of both the Communications and Programs Committees and led the Volunteer Program.  Other volunteer service has included two terms on the International Boundary Water Commission’s Citizen’s Forum, a member of the Maritime Museum’s Star of India crew, a volunteer at the USS Midway Museum, and member of the Coronado and Imperial Beach Community Emergency Response Teams.  He has also been an active volunteer on numerous political campaigns -- both national and local.

Williams has never run for public office but was elected twice to serve on the San Diego County Republican Central Committee.  He has no intention of having a career as an elected official.

“Our beautiful state of California has a dark cloud over it.   Decades of control by one political party has resulted in a decline in the quality of life in our major metropolitan areas and a difficult business climate across the state.  There is a need for new ideas based on common-sense solutions and a return of power from Sacramento to the counties and cities,” stated Williams.  He added, “Reckless spending, power grabs, and a far-left agenda have been recipes for disaster for our children and grandchildren.”  Californians deserve better.

Mike is married and has two grown children.
